Train the Trainers Workshop for Coral Reef Awareness and Marine Recreation Across the Region

The Ministry of Tourism and Diaspora Relations (MTDR) in collaboration with the Coral Reef Alliance (CORAL), the Mesoamerican Reef Cruise Destinations Network (MAR Network), and the Belize Tourism Industry Association (BTIA), held the first session of the Train the Trainers Workshop for Coral Reef Awareness and Marine Recreation Across the Region on November 2, 2021. The workshop aims to educate participants on the ecological and economic value of coral reefs and strengthen private sector participation in sustainable recovery at Mesoamerican Reef destinations. This information will further strengthen institutional, businesses, and personal capacities and will improve tourism and marine recreation standards. Participants include tourism trainers, dive instructors, tour operators, tour guides and tourism associations and NGOs.

This first workshop wraps up on Friday November 5, 2021. It will be repeated once more in the second half of November 2021 for stakeholders in the rest of the country.

Ambassador for Diaspora Relations

Hon. Anthony Mahler, Minister of Tourism and Diaspora Relations, the Ministry of Tourism and Diaspora Relations, and the Belize Tourism Board (BTB) extend congratulations to H.E. Sandhya Murphy on her recent appointment as Ambassador for Diaspora Relations. Ambassador Murphy will work closely with the Ministry’s Diaspora Unit. The Unit’s role is to raise Belize’s profile on the international stage; attract inward investment; promote trade; and provide support to Belizeans living abroad.

Ambassador Murphy has a Master’s in Business Administration from Nova Southeastern University, Florida and has worked in the private and public sectors for over 20 years. We wish her every success in her new role as Ambassador.

Minister meets with FCCA

Belize continuing to push Cruise Tourism. Today, Hon. Anthony Mahler, Minister of Tourism & Diaspora Relations, Mr. Evan Tillett, Chairman of the BTB Board of Directors and other delegates from the Belize Tourism Board met with the Florida-Caribbean Cruise Association (FCCA) in Miami.

Today’s meeting was conducted to further discuss the efforts to restart the cruise industry in Belize and to do so in a safe manner.

Press Release – Belize Land Borders will Reopen to Foreign Tourists on May 31

The Ministry of Tourism and Diaspora Relations (MTDR), along with the Border Management Agency (BMA), and the Belize Tourism Board (BTB) announce the reopening of Belize’s land and sea borders to foreign tourists who wish to visit the country for recreation and vacation purposes only.

The points of entry will reopen in a phased approach, and in Phase 1, only tourists who are booked at Gold Standard hotels, and transferred by Gold Standard taxis or tour operators will be permitted to enter. Tourists will be required to present proof of a negative PCR Covid-19 test taken within 72 hours prior to arrival in Belize; or a rapid antigen test for SARS-CoV2 approved by the Ministry of Health and Wellness (MOHW) taken within 24 hours prior to arrival in Belize. All tourists, including those who provide proof of full Covid-19 immunization, may be required to submit to testing at their expense.

The Government of Belize has received financing from the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) toward the cost of the “Sustainable Tourism Program II” (STPII), and intends to apply part of the proceeds for this consulting service.

The purpose of this consultancy is to develop a maintenance plan for the Toledo Welcome Plaza in Punta Gorda Town. Services also include the development of a maintenance manual and training for implementing the maintenance plan to the staff in charge of managing and conducting maintenance activities.

This consultancy should not exceed a period of ten weeks.

Candidates must demonstrate successful experience with the development and implementation of maintenance plans, including aspects related to training and capacity building. The Consultant must have experience in developing maintenance plans for public spaces, including green areas, as well as maintenance plans for commercial spaces.

The Consultant must possess the following qualification and experience necessary to complete this consultancy:

–       Language: English (Oral and Written)

–       Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in Business Management or other related areas, with demonstrated experience with facilities operations and maintenance, landscaping, as well as the formulation of business plans, feasibility studies and revenue generation research.

–       Minimum of 5 years’ experience in facilities operations and maintenance, with demonstrated experience with the development of maintenance plans for public spaces, commercial spaces, and green areas.

–       Demonstrated experience with both virtual and on-site modes of training and capacity building.

–       Knowledgeable of Belize’s laws, regulations, and policies.

The individual consultant will be selected based on the Comparison of Qualification for Individual Consultants procurement method in accordance with the procedures set out in the Inter-American Development Bank: Policies for the selection and Contracting of Consultants financed by the Inter-American Development Bank (GN-2350-9).
