The Ministry of Tourism and Civil Aviation has adopted to a quality management system (ISO-9001), a strategic direction that will help to improve its overall performance and provide a sound  basis for sustainable development initiatives.  Our Quality Management System Scope encompasses the Execution of Projects.  For this purpose a Design and Development Procedure has been established to guide the process for the design, planning and development of projects with the Ministry of Tourism.

The Ministry is pleased to share with you, as a project partner, the attached procedure for your records and future collaborations.

Design and Development Procedure

Belize City, Monday, 13th August, 2018: Aeromexico, Mexico’s global airline, today announced the start of a seasonal twice a week nonstop flight to Belize starting on November 17th to April 28th making it the first major Mexican commercial airline to offer such service to the country of Belize.

Aeromexico’s flight 67 will be on Saturdays and Sundays. It will depart Mexico at 8:30 am and will arrive at the Phillip S. W. Goldson International Airport at 10:30 am. It will depart Belize at 12:00 and arrive in Mexico at 2:25 pm.

“Mexico is a fast growing market for Belize and therefore we welcome Aeromexico’s new flight as it will highly facilitate the movement of people between both neighboring countries. Belize is a country of countless attributes. Its cultural and natural wealth is virtually unmatched. Its indigenous lineage and multiple ethnic groups, excellent cuisine and friendly people, and the many historical attractions, festivals and natural wonders all makes Belize a perfect Destination, which Mexicans will surely enjoy,” said Mrs. Karen Bevans, BTB’s Director of Tourism.

Mrs. Bevans added that “the BTB is also dedicated to developing and implementing tourism programs that will help strengthen and grow the Belizean tourism industry; promote good destination stewardship; and instill high quality standards for accommodations.”

Announcing the new flight, Aeromexico’s Chief Revenue Officer, Anko van der Werff said “At Aeromexico, we are very happy to celebrate this new route that has also become the airline’s 50th international destination, which will help us expand our global connectivity network. This achievement is another sign that we are working to offer better products to our customers, removing barriers between countries, regions, and people.”

Aeromexico first served New York City in 1957 as its first outside of Mexico destination and since than it has become Mexico’s global airline set on a course to offer travellers enhanced options to connect them with the world.

Aeromexico has served the Central American market for more than 11 years and operates more than 600 scheduled passenger flights per day, with service to 43 destinations in Mexico and 49 international destination from Mexico City. Its fleet of more than 130 aircraft includes Boeing 787 and 737 jet airliners.

UNESCO | Tuesday, 26 June 2018

The World Heritage Committee, meeting in Manama since 24 June, decided Tuesday to remove the Belize Barrier Reef Reserve System from the List of World Heritage in Danger.

The Committee considered that safeguarding measures taken by the country, notably the introduction of a moratorium on oil exploration in the entire maritime zone of Belize and the strengthening of forestry regulations allowing for better protection of mangroves, warranted the removal of the site from the World Heritage List in Danger.

The site was inscribed on the List in Danger in 2009 due to the destruction of mangroves and marine ecosystems, offshore oil extraction, and the development of non-sustainable building projects.

The Belize Barrier Reef Reserve System, inscribed on the World Heritage List in 1996, is an outstanding natural system consisting of the largest barrier reef in the northern hemisphere, offshore atolls, several hundred sand cays, mangrove forests, coastal lagoons and estuaries. The system’s seven sites illustrate the evolutionary history of reef development and are a significant habitat for threatened species, including the marine turtle, the manatee and the American marine crocodile.

The List of World Heritage in Danger is designed to inform the international community of conditions threatening the very characteristics that warranted the inscription of a property on the World Heritage List and encourage corrective measures.

The Government of Belize has received financing from the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) under the “Sustainable Tourism Program II” (STPII), and intends to apply part of the proceeds towards payments for the consulting services for a Market Study for Prospect Mexican Tourist Market for Overnight Tourism in Belize. The main purpose of this consultancy is to increase market intelligence related to the Mexico Outbound Travel Market to Belize and provide an understanding of current and future consumer demand and awareness of the Belize Tourism Product. This will include establishing motivational and decision-making factors influencing the decision to visit or not to visit Belize, and means of preferred travel to Belize. The Ministry of Tourism and Civil Aviation, now invites eligible consulting firms to indicate their interest in providing the services.

The Government of Belize has received financing from the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) under the “Sustainable Tourism Program II” (STPII), and intends to apply part of the proceeds towards payments for the consulting services for Feasibility, Social and Environmental Assessment, Architectural Design, and Operational Management Options for the Toledo Welcome Plaza. This consultancy will develop concept designs for the upgrade of the area, supported by the necessary technical and social environmental studies, and public consultation that considers the input of the wider community as well as mitigation of any negative social, environmental and economic impacts. Final architectural, construction and bidding documents will then be developed based on the final designs. The Ministry of Tourism and Civil Aviation, now invites eligible consulting firms to indicate their interest in providing the services.

The Government of Belize has received financing from the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) under the “Sustainable Tourism Program II” (STPII), and intends to apply part of the proceeds towards payments for the consulting services for Feasibility, Social and Environmental Assessment, Architectural Design, and Operational Management Options for the Cultural Heritage Bayside Plaza, for an urban revitalization project in Corozal Town, Corozal District. Specific focus is on the waterfront zone, including the main municipal pier and the House of Culture with proposed pedestrian linkage to Central Park and Fort Barlee in that municipality.
