Happy Diwali

November 4, 2021

To all Belizeans,

We extend our warmest wishes to our Belizean Indian community, locally and within the diaspora, and everyone around the world celebrating Diwali. This festival of lights is a celebration of good over evil, light over darkness. After 14 years in exile, Lord Rama defeated the evil King Ravana and was welcomed home with rows of diyas (clay lamps), lanterns and firecrackers. Today, as homes are beautifully illuminated, we are reminded to reflect on the year gone by and the year to come. This is a time to give to those less fortunate and forgive; to unite as a people and lift each other up; and to prosper as a community. Let us embrace the values Diwali brings – kindness and compassion. Let us join across religions, cultures, and backgrounds to build a society that is founded on the values of peace, community, and prosperity for all.

May the light illuminate our homes and our hearts and empower us to create a space of love and divinity for all. Wishing you and your families a very safe and Happy Diwali from the entire team at the Ministry of Tourism and Diaspora Relations

With gratitude,
H.E. Sandhya Murphy
