HONORIFIC PRESIDENCY OF THE REPUBLIC OF EL SALVADOR

The Mundo Maya Organization (OMM) founded on August 13, 1992 as per its constitutive agreement, through an initiative by the Ministries of Tourism of Belize, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, and Mexico, with an integrated vision to promote the development of the multi-destination, focuses its objectives to attain sustainable tourism development in the Mundo Maya Region through the promotion and contribution to the conservation of cultural and historical heritage.

Between January 20 to 22, 2021, the OMM will carry out its first virtual business roundtable, with the objective of generating new business and securing strategic partnerships between service providers of the five member countries and wholesalers and buyers of national, regional and international markets who offer tourists the opportunity to enjoy safe and enjoyable vacations in a unique region, as is the cradle of the Maya civilization. Participation of buyers from the United States, Canada, Mexico, Central America, as well as South American countries such as Colombia, Chile, Peru, Brazil, and other important tourist generating markets such as Dominican Republic is expected.

For three days and between the hours of 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, there will be working sessions where exhibitors will be able to present their offer, provide assistance to the development of itineraries, showcase fabulous tourism corridors that visitors will be able to enjoy, and explain biosafety protocols that are being implemented in tourism sites in the region.

The coordination of the business roundtable is under the helm of ER3 Turismo de Centroamerica, which has directly invited over 300 retail travel agencies and 200 wholesale operators, accompanied by convocation efforts focused in primary markets of the American continent.

The Mundo Maya region offers great natural and cultural wealth. Its heavenly ecosystems, archaeological sites, diverse flora and fauna, rich customs and traditions, unmatched gastronomy and colourful crafts, offer incomparable scenes that must be shared with the entire world and that for the most part can be enjoyed in outdoor environments with open spaces. The Mundo Maya region is prepared to cater to visitors with all biosafety measures, which are important to the adaptation of tourism operators to the new norm.

Since the tourism sector was the most affected sector financially due to the coronavirus pandemic, the OMM is very much interested in continuing to develop actions that contribute to economic recovery of member countries, especially in rural areas, where income from tourism has been a determining factor in improving quality of life. It is also a time to take advantage of sharing with all visitors the wide outdoor natural spaces.

The Mundo Maya’s Virtual Business Roundtable represents the first promotional action of 2021 that the organization will carry out as parts of its strategic plan which seeks to boost the positioning and the integrated work of the region as a multi-destination.
