About the NSTMP
The National Sustainable Tourism Master Plan (NSTMP) for Belize was created under the Sustainable Tourism Program. It received Cabinet endorsement in October 2012 and serves as the strategic framework for Belize’s tourism development until the year 2030.
In 2022, the Government of Belize (GOB) initiated an evaluation of the NSTMP to assess its relevance in a post-pandemic and dynamically evolving global landscape. This evaluation aimed to fill gaps in the NSTMP, such as reviewing the impacts of COVID-19 and developing climate adaptation and resilience strategies for key regional areas and tourism destinations in Belize. The review and update process began in 2022 and concluded in 2024.
