About the NSTMP

The National Sustainable Tourism Master Plan for Belize was developed as part of the Sustainable Tourism Program. It was endorsed by the Cabinet in October 2012 and became the strategic guideline for tourism development in Belize up to 2030.

The master plan divides the country into seven unique destinations that all together converge in a cohesive offering that make Belize a distinctive and highly competitive destination. The master plan also provides development strategies for each of the seven destinations as follows:

  1. Northern Belize
  2. Northern Islands
  3. Central Coast Belize
  4. Western Belize
  5. Southeastern Coast
  6. Southern Belize
  7. Belize Reef

Update to the NSTMP

The Government of Belize (GOB) decided to evaluate the adequacy of the NSTMP for Belize in a post-pandemic, and rapidly changing global environment. The evaluation addressed components missing from the NTSMP including a review of the COVID-19 impacts and several climate adaptation and resilience plans for regional areas and selected tourism destinations in Belize. The review and update of the Belize National Sustainable Tourism Master plan (2011) commenced in 2022 and finalized in 2024.
