Quality Management System
2017 marked the beginning of a campaign to evolve the Ministry into an organization that internalized and embraced Quality Management. Through a partnership with the Belize Bureau of Standards, the Ministry began a two-year process to ready itself for Certification under the International Organization for Standardization’s (ISO) 9001:2015 Standard on Quality Management. Since then, the Ministry, its staff, its facilities have undertaken a physical and operational transformation that led to the achievement of certification in July 2019. This made the Ministry of Tourism and Civil Aviation the first Government Ministry to achieve this certification.
The Ministry of Tourism and Civil Aviation established a 5C strategy that led to Certification:
The Ministry of Tourism and Civil Aviation strives to build upon the following four guiding principles:
- Innovative – integrating information, communication and technology to develop Belize’s tourism industry.
- Responsive – to the changing dynamics of Global Tourism, updating Belize’s legal and regulatory framework, in order to ensure sustainable economic growth in Belize.
- Resilient – to the environmental, economic and social challenges to global trade and travel by monitoring, forecasting and mitigating potential trends efficiently and effectively.
- Involved – continuous planning, monitoring and management of tourism development in Belize, through local & global engagement.
